I want to tell you a secret. You must keep this secret to yourself. If you share it, it will make some people angry. They will be aghast. They will be skeptical and maybe even combative. This secret might cause you to lose friends, your spouse may even divorce you.
Ok, here goes. Ready?
Mangia Macrina is the best pizza in Utica.
BOOM!
See, I told you so.
Look, I love tomato pie as much as the next guy. Tomato pie is a Utica institution, and it's delicious. But, that doesn't mean it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. And while I've not spent a ton of time in Utica, I'm unaware of any other pizzeria in Utica that's doing what Macrina is doing. Frankly, outside of some of the better tomato pies, much of the pizza in Utica is not all that great, most are mediocre (and boring) NY style pies.
Sorry, Utica, I love you, but the truth is the truth.
Having eaten the pizza here on two occasions, and, having spoken at length with the owner, Chris, who is as a dedicated pizza fanatic as you'll meet, I'm convinced Mangia Macrina is a hidden gem, and truly special. They are making fantastic Neopolitan inspired pies, using high-quality ingredients, and creative topping combinations that you will not find anywhere else in Utica.
Now, get a bunch of your friends together and eat that delicious pizza at Macrina. But, don't tell them our secret that it's the best pizza in Utica because you'll want them to still love you.
Great Choice! Super friendly. Tasty flavorful pizza with a thin pita-like crust works great. Large variety of choices including vegan or build your own. Appetizers included fire roasted peppers which were very good flavor & served with the napoli style crust wedges. We shared our mushroom & spinach pizza...if you are hungry, you can eat one by yourself. The canoli dessert pizza is light and delicious. Nice selection of (6) craft beers...Critz Farms Porter was perfect. Highly recommend!
truly the best GF pizza I've ever had !! Homemade dough && vegan house made cashew cheese!! Holy cow !! So stinking good would 10/10 recommend !!
Best kept secret wood fired pizza joint in the area! You can tell they know what they are doing by the way the pizza tastes! The ingredients they use are top of the line which makes all the difference in the world! Nice place to eat because it is well taken care of. And........they have wobbly pop too!
Wanted gluten free pizza and couldn't find any options up in Rome, NY. The fact the pizza was wood fired was also a big sell. I've had gluten free pizza from coast to coast and this was the softest and best gluten free pizza dough I've ever had. This wasn't a frozen crust... it was handmade. On top of the pizza being amazing, the employees/staff were super friendly and accommodating. A friend I was with got a normal crust pizza and he also said it was great. Don't think twice about going here, its amazing!
Delicious!! The Quattro Formaggi (added ricotta) & The Grazie were amaaazing!! Fresh, quick, and great quality!! We will be back!
Damn, it's so good here. The pizza crust is thin and crispy. I always get the Miele di Fico (goat cheese, figs, ginger honey drizzle). There is another one that has Gorgonzola and garlic, I forget the name, that is outstanding. The tough part is sampling them all - after I find one that I like I want to keep eating the same one.
As another reviewer noted, the ambiance is nothing to write home about, but who cares? I'm there for the food. They also have a great drink selection, with craft beers, hard cider and wine. If you're eating here on a Friday or Saturday evening expect to compete for parking with the folks at the Killabrew. Staff is super friendly as well.
Stopped in their new place and it's really a nice place. Great location, lots of parking - easy access (use the back driveway!)
At any rate - we got the Bianca (White) Pizza which has Artichoke Hearts, Roasted Red Pepper and Roasted Garlic. This pizza was delicious and has a rustic taste like it was cooked outside on a wood fire. Very thin dough and cooked perfectly. We have scores of Pizza places around here, but the pizza here really stands out.
We also go a Meatball Slider - no no no .. nothing like a Meatball Sandwich - it's a 4 ounce meatball topped with fresh mozzarella, fresh basil sandwiched between wood fired dough with a little sauce. Really good to say the least.
Nice atmosphere. Better than a take out pizza place, but not as a restaurant - still about average inside. Order at the counter, sit down and they bring you the food. Very clean and nice and we are looking forward to going back.
This was great! I was visiting my sister, who goes to Utica College, and I took her here. I was happy to see vegan cheese on the menu - they carry both a housemade cashew ricotta (great on a white/garlic pizza), as well as a locally made Syracuse cheese, "nozzarella." Very tasty! The wood-fire burns the pizza slightly around the edges but I think that's normal for this kind of pizza.
Five star for the food! I ordered the special Lola pizza, which is in the honor for Olympics. It was arugula and ribeye, with garlic base and some special sauce. Very tasty! The dough is perfect as always, light, fluffy and chewy. Thin, and not overwhelming. The sauce has some sweet tangy taste, a very refreshing feel.
I am not a pizza eater, but I can finish the pizza and want more. The size is also perfect.
Tried their gun something dark beer, rich and tasty. I will go back for that. Wanna try the white raspberry beer as well.
Only wish the environment can be more cozy.
Wonderful staff, wonderful food. Another great restaurant addition to the Mohawk Valley!
Great pizza! Love this place!
Tons of options, can't much fresher than this, and it's delicious! Get a few and split with others.
Mangia Macrina in Little Falls, NY recreated my experience of a trip to Naples in 1994. Best birthday gift ever. The flavors are exquisite... my taste buds are alive with joyful memories. Thank you for the delicious gift of dessert pizza. Who knew I'd like Nutella. Pizza for dessert? Yes. :)
The best pizza in town! It's classic Neopolitan style. Get the True Neopolitan with buffalo mozzarella for a real treat!
